Evidence-Based Therapy for Meaningful, Lasting Change.

Practical, compassionate therapy for individuals, families, and professionals navigating trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions.

Therapy That Builds Capacity — Not Dependence

In a healthcare system that often pushes more — more appointments, more time, more reliance — I believe the most effective therapy gives you more agency.

My goal is simple:
To help you understand your mind, strengthen your skills, and build resilience so you don’t need therapy forever.

Together, we’ll focus on:

  • Understanding patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

  • Learning practical, evidence-based skills you can use in real life.

  • Setting clear goals and tracking meaningful progress.

  • Building confidence in your ability to cope — even when life is hard.

Therapy should help you feel more capable, not more dependent.

Meet Dr. Faria Kamal

I’m a licensed psychologist with over 18 years of experience providing therapy for a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges — from anxiety and depression to trauma, self-harm, and complex relationship dynamics.

My work is grounded in behavioral and evidence-based therapies, meaning sessions are practical, structured, and focused on real change — not just insight.

Alongside clinical work, I am deeply committed to training the next generation of therapists and advancing culturally-responsive mental health care.

Highlights include:

  • Assistant Professor, Columbia University Medical Center

  • Residency/Internship & Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Yale University School of Medicine

  • PhD & MA, University of Toronto

  • Certified Global DBT Trainer, Behavioral Tech (founded by Marsha Linehan)

  • Creator of the first gold-standard DBT training focused on culturally responsive care

  • Trained 2,500+ mental health professionals worldwide

  • Founding member, ISITDBT Anti-Racism Committee

My work has been featured within organizations such as Yale, Harvard, UCLA, Google, NBC, Pinterest, and at international conferences, school boards, and policy development institutes.

What Therapy is Like

Warm. Direct. Practical.

My style is collaborative, straightforward, and compassionate.

I use evidence-based therapies — including DBT, CBT, ACT, trauma-focused treatments, and mindfulness-based approaches — to tailor therapy to your strengths, challenges, and goals.

Sessions are active and structured. You’ll learn skills, try new strategies, and experiment with different ways of responding to the challenges in your life.

I often tell clients:
My goal is to work myself out of a job.
Because when you have the tools you need, you won’t need me anymore.

How it Works

1

Consultation

Complimentary 15-minute phone call to talk about your goals, answer your questions, and see if working with Dr. Kamal feels like a good fit.

2

Onboarding

You’ll receive an email with a secure patient portal link where you will complete intake forms and health information before your first appointment.

3

Initial Session

In your intake session, you’ll have space to share your hopes for therapy, ask questions, and talk through what’s been going on. Dr. Kamal will then offer recommendations and an initial treatment plan.

4

Ongoing Support

We’ll meet weekly for 45-minute sessions focused on your goals, with clinical check-ins and brief measures to help us thoughtfully tailor your care over time.
